Activity One
In this ELT activity, students will experience the power of Web 2.0 technology for teaching and learning in light of the growing popularity of social networking interfaces (e.g., MySpace, Facebook, You Tube). Students will search for and identify YouTube clips with instructional value and will reflect and respond to the following questions.
- Choose a topic you would like to explain “how to” do.
- Write a summary of your explanation, using your own ideas or those of “helpful others”.
- Identify a YouTube video clip that explains or strengthens your points.
- Include the title and the URL of each clip in your posting.
- Write an evaluation of the clip’s instructional effectiveness based on the following questions:
- Identify why you have chosen this particular clip.
- Who might be the target audience of the clip—entry-level, intermediate, or advanced learners)?
- What is the strength of the video clip in terms of its instructional quality?
- What is its weakness in terms of its instructional quality?
- What could be added or removed to improve the clip’s instructional quality?
